Web Site Advisory April 3, 2008

Our web host will be performing routine maintenance on the MySql server that contains our data. The following message was provided by our host:

MySQL Maintenance Scheduled for Tonight

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve MySQL performance, we will be adding new hardware and re-allocating the load on our MySQL servers between 12:00am and 5:00am EDT on Thursday, April 3, 2008. During this five-hour maintenance window, there may be periods of time when your database is temporarily inaccessible, making the database-driven pieces of your Web site temporarily unavailable to your visitors. (You should be able to connect to your database(s) as normal for most of this maintenance window, but you may experience intermittent connectivity issues between midnight and 5:00am EDT.)

We have scheduled this maintenance for a time when traffic to most customers' sites is typically at its lowest. Still, we apologize for any inconvenience, and we expect that the work we're doing will help improve your site's performance.

Governor stops power rate increase PDF Print E-mail
Actions also will suspend street light disconnections

May 30, 2008

Governor Felix P. Camacho today signed Bill No. 291 into law and immediately called the Chairman of the Consolidated Commission on Utilities to stop the proposed power rate increase. The Governor also asked CCU Chairman Simon Sanchez to suspend any further street light disconnections.

"Our people are already suffering from the rising costs of fuel and we want to make sure we do everything possible to prevent any further cost of living increase," Governor Camacho said. "I want to thank the Senators for the swift passage of this critical legislation."

The bill, now Public Law 29-82, authorizes the Government of Guam to seek financing to resolve this issue. The legislation amended a previous law and gives the Governor the authority to borrow $13.8 Million to pay off the decades-old debt.

"I have ordered the Guam Economic Development and Commerce Authority along with other critical agencies to work with our financial advisors to get a Request for Proposal on the loan issued immediately," Governor Camacho said. "I have tried for years to address this debt through long-term financing in my Deficit Elimination Plan and I thank the Senators for agreeing to allow us to finally put this matter behind us."

The Governor's chief of staff, legal counsel, GEDCA and others spent this morning working out the details of the RFP and financing.

Meanwhile, the Governor also asked Sanchez to establish lighting standards for the island based on federal regulations and incorporating the advice of the mayors of all the villages to help determine the proper placement of streetlights.
