Web Site Advisory April 3, 2008

Our web host will be performing routine maintenance on the MySql server that contains our data. The following message was provided by our host:

MySQL Maintenance Scheduled for Tonight

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve MySQL performance, we will be adding new hardware and re-allocating the load on our MySQL servers between 12:00am and 5:00am EDT on Thursday, April 3, 2008. During this five-hour maintenance window, there may be periods of time when your database is temporarily inaccessible, making the database-driven pieces of your Web site temporarily unavailable to your visitors. (You should be able to connect to your database(s) as normal for most of this maintenance window, but you may experience intermittent connectivity issues between midnight and 5:00am EDT.)

We have scheduled this maintenance for a time when traffic to most customers' sites is typically at its lowest. Still, we apologize for any inconvenience, and we expect that the work we're doing will help improve your site's performance.

Australian Ambassador and Trade Leader Expand on Governor's Economic Agenda PDF Print E-mail
Camacho also arranges meeting with Chamber of Commerce

March 16, 2008

The Australian Ambassador to this region visited Guam Friday and this weekend to discuss Governor Felix P. Camacho's recent trip to Australia and to meet with U.S. military officials.

Ambassador Susan Cox paid a courtesy visit to Governor Camacho Friday in his chambers, where they discussed trade possibilities, increasing communication between Guam and Australian companies and the results of the Governor's mission in Australia.

"Your visit generated much interest among some of the largest companies in Australia," Ambassador Cox told Governor Camacho.

"We're very excited about facilitating a partnership between Guam and Australian businesses," Governor Camacho said.  "There is a lot of potential for economic growth and improving the quality of life of our people by growing this relationship with Australia."

Ambassador Cox organized the Governor's visit to Cairns, Townsville, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney in February.  She is the Australian Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  She also is Consul General of Australia for Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.  She resides at the Embassy in Kolonia, Pohnpei.

Senior Trade Commissioner

The Ambassador also introduced Governor Camacho to Australia's Senior Trade Commissioner in Manila, Ross Bray.  Bray is the official from Austrade who oversees Australia's economic interests in the Philippines, Guam and the CNMI.  Austrade is the Australian government's economic development authority, with trade commissions throughout the world.

Governor Camacho, Ambassador Cox, Bray, Admiral William French and Captain Robert Lee Friday night discussed Guam's future and Australia's interest in encouraging Australian companies to invest in the island.  Bray said Austrade is focusing greater attention on economic opportunities in Guam.

Governor Camacho said there are many opportunities outside the military expansion, where Australian companies can invest capital and build the capacity the island needs for solid waste disposal, wastewater technology, road infrastructure, port expansion and more.

"We want to take best practices that are working in Australia and make them work in Guam," Governor Camacho said.

Guam Chamber of Commerce

Governor Camacho also arranged a meeting between Ambassador Cox and Bray with the Guam Chamber of Commerce.  Chamber Chairwoman Laura Dacanay and President Reina Leddy met the Ambassador and Bray Friday evening.  They discussed investments to public infrastructure through public-private partnerships, increased air traffic and tourism, shipping, exporting and other economic issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was an opportunity to expand on the Governor's Australian agenda by opening communication directly with Guam's business community.
