Acting Governor Signs Rebate Bill for Healthy Living |

Seven proposed bills signed into law December 3, 2008 Acting Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D. yesterday signed seven bills into law including Public Law 29-121 which allows insurance refunds or rebates. As a result of this new Public Law, both private and public employees who participate in qualified wellness programs are eligible for financial incentives consistent with the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. "I applaud the legislature for recognizing our need to make healthy living and wellness a priority amid these economically difficult times," said Acting Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D. "This piece of legislation reinforces the mission of my Healthy Guam Initiative by making preventative care less expensive for our families." Acting Governor Cruz also signed: - Bill 263-PL 29-117: Requires all drivers to provide proof of insurance upon request of a law enforcement officer during a traffic stop.
- Bill 272-PL 29-118: Prevents an initiative measure with a substantially related subject from being reintroduced consecutively for a three year period if it has failed in a previous election.
- Bill 297-PL 29-119: Updates and clarifies the Mechanics Lien Laws of Guam.
- Bill 331-PL 29-120: Mandates all wholesalers and retailers of tires to inform buyers of the dangers of aged tires, the dates of manufacture of all tires sold, and to prohibit the sale of tires that are older than six years.
- Bill 369-PL 29-122: Allows the Chamorro Land Trust Commission to exchange awarded lots that can not be developed for lots upon which families can build needed homes.
- Bill 375-PL 29-123: Amends a subsection of the Guam Board of Accountancy.
