June 26, 2009 Acting Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D., issued the following statement regarding the signing of Bill 1 into PL 30-37: “Governor Camacho and I have had one unalterable goal: end double session while bringing the John F. Kennedy Islanders home. Bill 1 allows us to accomplish that task, and that’s why I signed it into law.
I want to thank the parents, teachers and students of the JFK and GW communities for their patience. Our journey has been long, but we are getting there together.
Now we must focus our energy on rebuilding a new permanent JFK within one year. I’d like to thank Dr. Nerissa Shafer; the chairman of the Guam Education Policy Board; the 30th Guam Legislature, led by Speaker Won Pat; and the Attorney General’s Office for all of their hard work.
Though we should celebrate the end of double session, our work isn’t done. We must all be ready to work a little harder and cooperate a little more.”
