Governor Felix P. Camacho and Lieutenant Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D., have appointed Vicente Anthony “Tony” Ada to be the director of the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA). He will replace Chris Duenas, who was appointed director of the Department of Land Management.
“I am proud that this son of Guam has answered the call to serve,” said Gov. Camacho. “I know Tony will help move DYA forward to ensure our island’s youth receive the best services possible.”
Ada served in the U.S. Army until he was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1992. For the past 17 years, he has led his family business serving as vice president of operations for Ada’s Mortuary Inc. An active civic leader, Ada serves as the chairman of the Hospice Advisory Board for Health Services of the Pacific.
“Tony possesses the qualifications and characteristics that support our philosophy and our vision,” said Lt. Gov. Cruz in his appointment letter as acting governor dated June 26, 2009. “The tasks ahead of our administration will require the collective efforts of the best minds that will have the courage to make the tough decisions for the good of our people.”
