July 7, 2009 Governor Felix P. Camacho and Lt. Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D., issued the following statement regarding the announcement that President Barack Obama intends to nominate former Guam resident Anthony Babauta for the position of Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas, Department of the Interior: “We congratulate Tony on his expected nomination to serve in the Obama Administration as Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas. A proud son and advocate of Guam, Tony possesses a great understanding on matters pertaining to the U.S. territories and the Freely Associated States. This, coupled with his experience in Washington D.C., will serve our island well as Tony assumes this new role.”
