STOP Violence Against Women Program Receives Second Grant This Year |

Money to fund legal services and victim support groups Sept. 25, 2009 The Office of the Governor has received a grant for $651,904 for its fiscal year 2009 STOP (Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutors) Violence Against Women (VAW) program, grant number 2009-WF-AX-0051, from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on VAW in Washington, D.C. This is the second such grant the program has received in three months. The money will be used to support law enforcement, prosecution, services, courts and other discretionary categories. “Following another grant for this program received back in July, this additional grant shows that the STOP program is in very capable and dedicated hands,” said Governor Felix P. Camacho. “As the money is distributed to organizations in Guam that support this effort, we look forward to an increased focus on preventing violence against women and on victim support in our community.” Prospective subgrant recipients are: • Alee Shelter – Catholic Social Service • Archdiocese of Agana, Division of Pastoral Ministries • Erica’s House – Safe Visitation & Exchange Center: ◦ Soroptimist International of the Marianas • Governor’s Community Outreach – Federal Programs Office (GCO-FPO) • Guam Sexual Assault & Family Violence Coalition • Guam Police Department – Consolidated Domestic Violence Projects: ◦ Criminal Investigation Section ◦ Victims Assistance Unit and other support units • Guma’ Mami Inc., Domestic Violence Support Project • Immaculate Heart of Mary – Life Teen Central • Office of the Attorney General – Department of Law: ◦ Crime Victim Response Unit (CVRU) ◦ Prosecution Division • San Dimas/San Dionisio Parishes-Family 2 • Superior Court of Guam – Domestic Violence Consolidated Projects • Victim Advocates Reaching Out (VARO)
