Web Site Advisory April 3, 2008

Our web host will be performing routine maintenance on the MySql server that contains our data. The following message was provided by our host:

MySQL Maintenance Scheduled for Tonight

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve MySQL performance, we will be adding new hardware and re-allocating the load on our MySQL servers between 12:00am and 5:00am EDT on Thursday, April 3, 2008. During this five-hour maintenance window, there may be periods of time when your database is temporarily inaccessible, making the database-driven pieces of your Web site temporarily unavailable to your visitors. (You should be able to connect to your database(s) as normal for most of this maintenance window, but you may experience intermittent connectivity issues between midnight and 5:00am EDT.)

We have scheduled this maintenance for a time when traffic to most customers' sites is typically at its lowest. Still, we apologize for any inconvenience, and we expect that the work we're doing will help improve your site's performance.

Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan presented to Governor, Lt. Governor

February 14, 2008

Governor Felix P. Camacho and Lt. Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D. today were presented with the Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition's new plan to begin implementing initiatives for a cancer-free Guam.

The Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan is a five-year guide to help the community's medical professionals collaborate with the public and private sectors to begin a community-wide approach to fight cancer.

"Cancer has affected the lives of so many and I am proud to stand with the Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition and their efforts toward a cancer-free island," Governor Camacho said.  "This must be a community-wide effort. I encourage everyone to participate in this initiative to fight disease and promote healthier lifestyles for us and future generations."

The coalition is made up of dedicated individuals from Guam's medical community who will begin planning forums, summits and other events to gather data and input to improve the state of cancer care services on Guam as well as implement prevention outreach projects.

"This is an important commitment we all must make toward improving the health and quality of life for our people," Lt. Governor Cruz said.  "The statistics of cancer in our community are staggering.  We must act now to reach out to our people and educate them about the importance of prevention and early detection."

The Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan is a collaborative effort between the Department of Public Health and Social Services and the Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition.  This project is in line with a regional plan to improve cancer care and prevention services in the Pacific.

The coalition also announced the launch of the Guam Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program for qualified women who are not insured or underinsured.  For more information on this project, residents can call the Department of Public Health and Social Services at 735-0671.
