Governor Camacho To Attend NGA Winter Meeting |

Standing committees to meet and discuss various issues February 19, 2010 Governor Felix P. Camacho departed Guahan today to attend the National Governors Association (NGA) 2010 Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C. The event will take place from February 20–22, 2010.
The NGA will discuss the following issues: public health and preparedness; national surface transportation policy; energy technology and infrastructure; reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and homeland security.
“I look forward to discussing matters of mutual concern with my fellow governors, and ways we can better serve our people,” said Governor Camacho. “This will also be a great opportunity to raise awareness of several issues more specific to Guahan and our region, including the military buildup.”
Scheduled presenters and speakers include First Lady Michelle Obama on childhood obesity; Steven Chu, U.S. Secretary of Energy, on advancing a green energy economy; Ray LaHood, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, on the future of surface transportation; Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, on the federal-state education partnership for success; and Janet Napolitano, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, on the challenge and opportunities for the future of homeland security.
