A STATEMENT FROM THE ACTING GOVERNOR OF GUAHAN PDF Print E-mail
February 25, 2010

Acting Governor Michael W. Cruz M.D.,  released the following statement regarding the U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s (U.S.EPA) comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS):

“Governor Felix P. Camacho and I support the findings of the U.S EPA. Throughout the review period of the DEIS, our agencies and departments identified concerns similar to U.S. EPA’s findings. We’ve submitted those concerns in our government of Guahan’s official comments on the DEIS.

Like U.S. EPA, we agree that the DEIS does not adequately identify or provide mitigation plans for environmental, drinking and waste water infrastructure impacts that will accompany the buildup.

This document further solidifies our position that these concerns must be addressed to ensure the buildup is beneficial for Guahan. Governor Camacho and I will continue to press our case to leaders in Washington D.C. and to the Department of Defense as the final record of decision has yet to be determined.”
