| Lieutenant Governor Cruz Receives Award for Leadership in Guam’s Cancer Prevention Efforts |

Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition also recognized for advocacy of cancer awareness endeavors
September 25, 2009 Lieutenant Governor Michael W. Cruz, M.D., today received the 2009 C-Change Exemplary Comprehensive Cancer Control Leadership Award from Dr. Dileep Bal, a member of the C-Change board of directors. The award is given to government officials, organizations, and non-profit groups that demonstrate leadership in promoting cancer prevention. The Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition also received the 2009 C-Change Award for exemplary implementation of cancer control measures. “As an elected leader of our island and a medical professional, I have had the opportunity to be at the forefront of education and prevention efforts to protect the people of Guam against cancer,” said Lt. Governor Cruz. “I am honored to receive this award, and I congratulate the Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition for going above and beyond for our island community.” Visiting C-Change officials have traveled to Guam to hold a presentation ceremony for Lt. Governor Cruz and the Guam Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition. Lt. Governor Cruz was nominated for this award by local physician Dr. Annette M. David. C-Change was founded in 1998 and is comprised of over 150 members spanning government agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations. The goal of C-Change is to advance progress toward a future where cancer is prevented, detected early, and cured or managed successfully as a chronic illness. |
